Pat writes a monthly column for the Newcastle News. In 2011, she won Honorable Mention in the National Society of Newspaper Columnists’ contest for best humor column for papers with circulations under 50,000.
She received fan mail from a talented cartoonist, Dana Sullivan, who asked if he could provide cartoons for her columns and blogs, and he included a little picture of her in the email. She was thrilled, and wrote back that she loved the idea, but that he needed to be aware – since the picture on her column was neck-up – that she had a “meaningful ass,” whereupon he sent the below.

Sopping by Woods on a Rainy Evening
Whose woods these are, I think is plain.
His house is in the village main.
He will not see me stopping here
To watch these woods fill up with rain.
